I like this painting, "Edge of the Field" by Elizabeth McCrindle, because the colors are realistic. I can connect to the image because it is one that I recognize and it seems familiar to me. Nature is a subject that I enjoy seeing portrayed in paint. I think that the artist wanted to capture light as she saw it, and with purpose, so that the audience could easily identify with the subject even though her marks are soft and vague.
I am not impressed with this painting done by Louis St. Lewis. I wish that the item pasted on this man's face was more significant. I feel like there was an opportunity to make a stronger statement and be even more poetic, but the artist chose to paste scraps of wood. He is most likely critiquing the era and the european history and western culture.
