This painting is Abra Variation I By Frank Stella and I
really like it. It was created in 1969 and Stella has created a mathematical painting, with the
square in the middle and the lines coming across, beneath and around the
square, along with the symmetry of the entire painting. The colors are also
subdued, which puts the main focus on the shapes. I like the painting because
of the symmetry and the way the lines draw your eye around the entire painting.
This is a painting that I do not like. The painting is
Deluge II by Philip Guston and was created in 1975. The painter is portraying a bunch of human heads,
feet, hands and other extremities being deluged in a pool of blood, creating a
very disturbing scene. I do not like this painting because it looks very messy
and not precise, which makes it very confusing and weird to look at. Also, I find the colors to be ugly and mismatched and very confusing.
