Blog Post 2

 I find the composition in this painting very interesting. The eye is initially drawn to the main subject, who is sitting in the chair. However, we are eventually drawn to the boat. Placing a figure standing and being active on a boat provides a contrast between that and the older man who is stuck sitting in a chair, and yet looks content.

I find the tone in this painting very interesting. It provides a contrast between the horse and its surroundings. Since the surroundings are very dark in tone, the horse stands out more. The tone suggests a dark or dangerous atmosphere that the horse is in.
