Assignment #2

Looking at this painting by David Taylor, I find his value to be most interesting.  The light background draws my eye to the darkest place in the painting.  However, the Taylor's placement and distribution of color makes the bottom of the vase the deepest place on the painting.  My eye is not drawn to the beautiful flowers, but to the bottom of the navy vase.  The color of the table almost blends into the background and yet shadows evoke a sense of realism and dimensionally.

Stephen Hessler depicts Christmas morning on Laurel Street in the charming town of Carrboro.  I find Hessler's Subject to be most interesting in this painting.  He paints a perfect balance of nature and materialistic memories.  The house is not unique, yet it stands alone.  Although there are people who live there, they confine to the beautiful house and do not disturb the world and snow around them on this day.
